The Most Over-Covered Songs in Beatboxing
It’s fine to do a cover, but please, find a song that hasn’t been done before…

Well, thanks for being here. Today’s edition of SpeshFX is the first to go behind a paywall. Crazy. As a reward, I will be snarky. The reasons for this are twofold. First, because I'm good at it. Second, because the beatbox world needs to do some introspection, and I think snark is the right delivery method.
So bear with me as I explain some absurd beatboxing minutiae so that I can mock it.
In a beatbox battle, judges are asked to measure the competitors on a rigid set of criteria. Often the judges will ignore them and vote based on vibes—a perfectly legitimate philosophy in my opinion—but when they are following categories, one is always originality.
Originality can take any number of forms. Original compositions are the most basic way to shine, but using a brand new sound that nobody else can do is good too. New patterns or sound combinations are also great ways to showcase originality, and if you deliver a signature style, that’s originality too.
